God commands those who love him to use tools like Getting to Know God.

In the texts below both (1) the anger of the Lord for those who do not love God with all their heart and diligently keep all the Lord’s commandments and (2) the blessings upon those who are faithful to the Lord our God have been omitted.

The purpose is to focus on the often overlooked command of the Lord to develop strategies to keep the love of God and God’s commandments ever before our eyes.

God Commands Moses:

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strengthThese commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates. [Deut 6:4-9]

Moses—for God—commands the people:

Love the LORD your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.  Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.  Write them on the door frames of your houses and on your gates.  [Deut 11:1,18-20]

Getting to Know God is a humble effort to  be faithful to God’s command by using—as best we could with our limited resources—the means available to us today.
